XDC2015 Open Conversation - Day 1

64-bit generates LLVM code regardless of framework.

Awesome!!

Will we still be able to generate 32 bit apps using the LLVM compiler or will that revert to the current compiler?

Paraphrasing: Telling us to rewrite our apps around the new framework is a non-starter. There will eventually be a switch to turn off the classic framework so you don’t have to use namespaces, but the classic framework isn’t going away.

Time for lunch…

I would expect a fairly rapid shift this summer, with a good number of Windows 8.x users jumping to Windows 10. It will be offered as a free upgrade to most Windows 7 and up licences. Some exceptions, including Enterprise licences. Every build of Windows 10 refines the menu further, to the point that I may personnaly use the win 10 menu, rather than Classic Shell that I installed on all my Win 8.x machines. It may even make Windows 10 attractive to Windows 7 users.

Eagerly awaiting this: any timeline for when it’s dropping for alpha testers? (I don’t see any think in the Alpha channel yet)

My experience is similar. I have found that the Win10 menu is actually faster than Classic Shell.

My wife who is very resistant to change has stated that she is looking forward to 10 (she is on 7 now).
What they are expecting in 2015r3 (doing this from memory):

 • 64-bit
 • Web drag and drop
 • iOS container controls

And now my memory fails. Will others fill in the blanks?
When you mention iOS container controls, do you mean scrollable views?

I don’t know.

Paul is starting his session on creating iOS apps. Thrilled that he can finally do a session like this.

They mentioned Scrollable Views as well.
Plugins:

Changing the format. (Will be able to write plugins in Xojo.)
Can be local.
Can include resources.
Will compile to LLVM bit code.
Can be global or local to a project.
This is very exciting news

Yes, I agree.

Almost as exciting: They will be serving warm cookies this afternoon. Mmmmm, cookies…

Kem, you stole my thunder! You were supposed to keep that to yourself!

But there will be cupcakes too

I don’t know why Xojo hates my waistline…

Well we ARE walking to the evening events at night, so that’ll burn some calories

And to where are we walking?

Right…

To 4th Street for the Dinner Detective!

And then tomorrow a dinner cruise on Lady Bird Lake!
