Now had I known there would be cookies AND cupcakes… I would have made the trip
The current compiler will continue to be used for 32-bit builds (except for ARM Linux).
Though not on the list of features shipping in 2015r3 – just the overall roadmap.
@Jeremy Cowgar is starting his session on Introspection…
Follow me on Twitter (@lefebvre) and install Periscope (iOS-only, alas) to watch live video snippets from XDC 2015.
OK. Most of the apps we have migrated to Xojo should be easy to migrate to 64 bit - maybe a few declares and some Integer to Int32 updates. A couple of our apps have other 32 bit dependencies but they are still RB based rather than Xojo based.
I’m assuming that Integer is still going to be native to the target. If it is, I wonder if there should be an option that disables the Integer type in Xojo so that Int32 or Int64 must be specified when writing code. I have a feeling that lots of users are going to get caught out by thinking Integer still means Int32 when compiling for 64 bit as it will be a hard habit to break.
2015r3 looks like it could be the best release in years and the coming together of lots of hard work by you guys. This is one of the few versions where I wish I was an alpha tester but I guess I will have to wait until it hits us beta users later in the year.
I would be surprised if users are going to run into a lot of problems with Integer size varying.
I would expect that errors would occur more often when Xojo apps need to talk with external systems. Passing a 32-bit integer to an interface is not the same as passing a 64-bit integer to the same interface. Perhaps database apps will also need more careful attention than others.
I am hoping that I am wrong…
Mmmmm cookies…
Now at @Craig Boyd 's Designing Databases for Front End Applications session.
Thank you Kern for keeping us informed. Your efforts are very much appreciated.
Enjoy yourself.
Chris
That’s it for the day. Excellent presentations all around, and now off to dinner.
I’ll echo the thanks.
Kem, you did a great service today.
In lieu of being there in person, or a webcast of some sort, you did a great job of summarizing what’s been discussed.
I really appreciate it.
uuuhhh… please do not blame me for this kind of news but I’ve just read that Visual Studio becomes Cross-Platform… they are following the path Xojo already is heading… very interesting.

You are not correct. The new cross platform Visual Studio Code is made with HTML5+Typescript, it’s not Visual Studio ported. It’s a simple code editor like Atom, Sublime integrated with a Debugger and Source Control. Visual Studio is more than that.
The emphasis is on “incredible lightweight”. It is a better text editor. Wake me up when they have real Mac support
And: Dear. God. Intellisense. The worst “invention” ever.
Back to our scheduled programming. Kem, wakey, wakey!

OK, OK, I’m up, I’m up…
I’ll be starting a new thread for the day. Head over there.
That is great! Love the enthusiasm!
@Gavin Smith tweet us a picture of working in your Xojo shirt and I’ll send you some Xojo conference swag!
@Alyssa Foley I meant to tweet this yesterday but got too excited when Raspberry Pi support was announced
Tweeted it now though!
My wife thinks I’m a nerd.
Your wife knows you well
