The results of the Price/Compensation survey are in.
The results will be emailed directly to those who took the survey. I ask those who have the result not to release them publicly as an incentive for others to fill out the survey next time should they desire to receive it.
I will reveal one statistic: The average Xojo developer in our survey who does work for hire (full time) gets $181.40 an hour to do the work.
I will do the survey again in December, should anyone wish to participate.
Statistics demands more than collecting random numbers and calculating an average. The first email requesting info tipped how wrong this research could end. Surprising, I was expecting something near to $500/hour, probably someone anonymously cheated declaring $1/hour and distorted the average value.
I think you are smart enough to realize that it might be possible to register am Email address and not have it linked to a specific survey response.
Given that and likely not everybody submitted Email address to get the data at the end the data could easily still be anonymous unless there was was only 1 respondent. all it would so is set a range for that those requesting results would be in.
Don’t know why you are implying otherwise.
That said the summary provided does not provide enough details (such as average hours worked) to be useful, but that is a different issue.
Karen, consider this… Let’s say there are 3 respondents: you, me, and that whiney Andrew guy who works outside the tech industry (fry cook) and only gives software away for free. We provide 3 numbers. Knowing my number and knowing Andrew’s number, I could deduce your number. So your logic doesn’t hold up. Also, in 20 years, your billing rate could be disclosed in a forum if you’re popular enough.
Wow - Jay - even if it were 20 years ago that kind of thing is pretty private.
FWIW - I’ve just had someone in the community working for me for the best part of 6 months, I’d be pretty upset if he posted what I’d paid him - now or in 20 years!
And that goes 2 ways - sure they’d be pretty upset if I posted what they charged me in a public forum…
Not sure if that was aimed at me - I’m not offended at all
Just really surprised you posted it, that’s all. Don’t know if you want to get post removed, that only tells me I’d never hire you in the future - I would class that info as confidential and I couldn’t trust you to keep it that way.
I’ll say this the only time I’ve billed in that range was when I replaced 9 people.
But that was easy to justify since it was a 9 for 1 deal
Who here bills 40 hours per week 5 weeks a year?
5 weeks ? Wow I’m definitely in the wrong field
Since I started can’t say I’ve had many weeks that were as low as 40 hours - but then I am kind of a workaholic.
All the engineers are.
