I billed about triple what I normally would have for that gig - in part because it was a long term gig and there were some other perks to it that I was willing to lower my rate for. Don’t get me wrong I was damned happy with things.

FTE … sheesh … that brings back bad memories of the time, payroll and project costing systems I helped write many many many moons ago.

I felt dirty writing that particular Time & Attendance contraption - it’s was all top secret and those involved all knew the real reason it was being done!

This one was not top secret - it was payroll + project costing for an oil & gas firm.
And every employee got paid through it regardless of location (Canada, US, overseas etc)
About 7 million every 2 weeks and if it was out by 1 cent OMG !!!
And some folks wanted some really fun stuff - like put my regular pay in one bank account & my overtime, per diems, and other non-base pay remuneration in another, maybe the girlfriends, so the wife would not know about it.
Their marital finances were their problem not ours :slight_smile:

Corporate world rethink prices all the time and they don’t care much about if you can move objects with your mind or you speak 53 languages from countries they don’t have business, your special powers have no powers to increase the price they will to pay. The “secret” of the price is very simple indeed. If few people can solve a problem a corporation (or anyone) need solved, and to make things worst, they urge to solve it, prices can go sky-high until an acceptable limit (trade-off, how much I would pay to solve this?). If many people can solve it, and they have time to select the solver, they select a low priced solution good enough. You don’t control the prices, the environment control the prices, you just pick the chances. As a consultant, sometimes you MUST charge a 10 hours work at $40/hour and sometimes a 2 hours work at $235.00/h. As an Employee, large employers have tables with predefined, market researched, salaries. You say I want x value, and they say we pay this value, get it or go. Check your market, check the values you can sell your services in this market, and set your prices. Your are trying to research someone else’s market to set your price, and that’ll put you in a wrong track.
