Xojo beta

Conversely, I have not received a single comment. And if I did, my answer would be “it’s being worked on, it’ll be ready when I’m happy with the results.” I don’t need to mention that I’m being held up by my dev tool. Personally, I couldn’t care less about the new UI. I think it’s a hideous usability nightmare. But that’s neither here nor there.

I’m not really sure how that would help here. Are you suggesting moving all controls up by about 5 pixels so their vertical center point remains the same? I do this on Windows to account for their larger control sizes, but Windows users are less picky.

But we’re now in a situation where we have wildly different metrics not just between platforms, but different versions of the same platform. It would sure suck to use the IDE in macOS 26, place a 20 pixel button on your window, and when you run, the actual button is both larger and in a different location than you placed it. On top of that, since the controls are actually rendered by the system in the layout editor, they’ll be rendered at the new size but clipped to the old size. The whole experience would suck.

Yeah the beta is taking a while. The next milestone has been stuck at 78% complete for a week or two which is unusual:

The communication of Xojo in the last months has been lacking. I also find it weird that we don’t have a beta, yet.

Common Xojo Inc, inform your customers with a new update/statement. That would be very highly appreciated. Thank you in advance! We all want Xojo to succeed in the end.

My impression: If your sales depends on LiquidUI Gui stuff only, there is only one tool suitable for this. The strength of Xojo is elsewhere.

The strength of Xojo is native controls for all supported platforms. That seperates it from the bunch.

But thank you for your valuable input, nevertheless.

It’s not entirely that. Also important is using the macOS/iOS 26 SDK. Going forward, as I understand, that will be non-negotiable for the App Store.

I doubt that Xojo will be able to deliver all the fancy LiquidUI-Features, for example those, that depends on layered components, like the on resize animated, translucent toolbar with a picture or a map in the background.

If you only need some native widgets, ok, but Xojo never supported all what the platforms offer.

Sorry for the lack of updates. As you might imagine, things have taken a little longer than we thought. Earlier today we did just push out our first 2025r3 Beta for the MVPs to look at. We expect to get the beta out to the rest of you within two weeks.

Thank you for the update. Appreciated.

I have thousands of active users.

Not one email so far asking about this.

I honestly think people are getting used to ‘Apple changes things every 10 minutes, while 3rd party apps can take a while to catch up, (if ever)’

Good for you.

Yeah. That’s not by way of boast, just my personal experience to date.

I’m lucky, (so far) and I know most of us will take heat for it sooner or later.

Thanks for the update Paul. Good luck with the release.

The fact that Xojo does not generally release hotfixes for bugs but instead chooses to fix them for a coming release, means that postponing a release because of whatever, renders and leaves current releases unusable for some. I think that is quite an issue.

I’m still stuck using 2025r1.1, basically because of https://tracker.xojo.com/xojoinc/xojo/-/issues/79699

2025r3, since this will apparently be a release with some mayor changes, might as well introduce a bug that renders it unusable.

I think that is unfair to say. They did a lot of bug fixes in the last versions for sure.

I personally think it is a very fair and accurate statement based on previous history.

I had been excited for all the fixes going into R3 and then I saw the tickets…

I’m concerned about what’s in R3 now, and my excitement for the beta has turned to fear.

I also hope that’s not all. So far, I’m not particularly impressed, and I’m not convinced that this would require a longer development time than usual…
But I’m open to surprises.

Having gone through the Retina and Dark Mode phases of macOS and seeing what’s changed in Tahoe, a longer development time for r3 is certainly warranted. Making all of those new technologies work for users is a huge task by itself.
