Xojo 2014 Release 3?

The thread about priorities got locked because of where we are. iOS is coming first.

That’s not quite the same. 64-bit isn’t causing most users to lose opportunities. People are chafing about iOS because they’re missing out on sales today.

There is a 64 bit capable basic on the market : Visual Studio. There is no iOS capable basic. And whoever says “just learn Objective-C” is a bully.

I’m not retired, I depend on sales of apps (and the occasional contract work) to live, but I’m so angry over this matter. I’ve been burning the midnight oil last night (I got out of hospital on Thursday), working on replacing a whole system I wrote last year as it doesn’t work with the GM, but did with the earlier DPs.

I’m exhausted, grumpy and furious… Sorry If I have bitten anyones head off… Spent far too much time playing catch up to Apple (I realized that I wouldn’t have to if I was using their tools), and not enough time doing what makes me happy! My job, is quickly turning into a job.

I agree that iOS 8 is far too buggy at the moment, but as for a bendable iPhone… I’m certain that there may have been one or two legitimate cases (anything that’s mass manufactured will have a percentage of units that are faulty), I read recently that a stock analyst put out that this was hyped up by a certain competitor who’s sales of their latest phone are in 10s of thousands while Apple has broken 10s of millions…

It could be worse, there could be a gap between the screen and bezel, that gets bigger over time, but the maker labels this as a normal function of the phone. Or even worse, the CEO of the software company, doesn’t even use said software!

But so Human that marketing people advertise (too far) in advance the products so (foolish) people will wait for them.

Agree this has been largely overblown and Apple itself reported less than 10 cases on Sept. 25 Apple Says iPhone 6 And 6 Plus Bending Complaints Number Less Than 10 | TechCrunch

Yet, when we expect Ikea to thoroughly test couches to make sure big asses don’t fall through, it seems surprising Apple did not think about people sitting on their phone tuck in a tight jean’s back pocket. They are not the only one with super thin phone that bend, though :

  • Sony Xperia Z1
  • Lumia 925
  • Blackbery Q10
  • Oppo phone (N1?)
  • Samsung Galaxy S4

10 cases on how many sold millions ?

And on those cases, how many of these are legitimate ?
(iPhones not bend on purpose: bend to know if it is possible ?)

About bendgate :

I have a iPhone 6 and although it is very slim and light weighted it is very robust. Of course I can bend it by forcing it but that applies to all thin mobile phones.
I always have one on my pocket also when I am sitting down. It is still not bend after one week of use.

Maybe I am the only one but I do not have any issues with iOS8 so far. Works pretty good and fast.

If Apple reports them, one can imagine they are the ones legitimate.

Super tight jeans, hard ■■■ muscle, brutal seating are probably required. Have you see how some people let themselves fall onto the seat ? Anything would bend or break, though.

I did upgrade and everything works fine, so far, but am not representative of an app addict and use mostly simple apps like CalAlarm or the build-in apps. Nevertheless, iOS does break numerous apps.

Brilliant ! Thank you.

Yes great! Will have a look at this.

Ah, that makes sense. I thought when you locked the thread you where saying you started 64 bit first. I presume it is because it takes longer to develop 64 bit support?

do not throw the blame on them xojo followed what users asked.

Asked Order
1=iOS
2=64bits

I think users should know which is the primary need and not just one person but the entire community
and when is ready to voted then all voted for the same one of need.

i think we no need iOS or android for this now you can use (xcode,Java)
only need XOJO to be 64bits and stable as ever

You are right. Additionally, both these top cases in Feedback show as Scheduled, which should reassure those who want 64 bits that their concern will be addressed.

OK. I fetched the $14.99 needed to buy techBasic in the iTunes Store. That app is for iPad (or even iPhone for masochists), but is really a strange animal. I thought Apple did not want programmation on iOS, yet that is what these guys achieved. But the thing is extremely far from perfect.

First, no IDE. Don’t expect to be able to design the GUI in a Wysiwig environment, there is no such thing. Controls must be initiated in code. About just as unfriendly as it gets.

Then, what is the point to program on a device that does not have a keyboard ? It seems absolutely impossible to use with the virtual keyboard.

Finally, to build apps, App Builder that executes on Mac seems to somehow recompile what was produced on iPad after transfer through iTunes back to the Mac into Objective C to produce an iOS app. Cumbersome at best. The description of it is so bizarre I decided to drop any idea of experimenting with it at all.

What is the point to design an app without being able to see the control but by running ?

Not for me, thank you. I want basic, not a toy. Next !

Thanks for the review Michel! Thought it was a PC programming environment, not on device. Not useful for me either then.

I locked the thread because the schedule is not up for debate, and the way that thread was going, it was going to turn into another war.

Speak for yourself. Sure, you may not need iOS, but 5 times more people buy an iOS device than Macs. And iOS+Android devices represent more than Windows machines. If you don’t understand the future, you will end up obsolete…

And, why don’t you stop using Xojo ? You should use C or Java instead

Hi michel i buy XOJO for cross platform no for iOs or Android i use xcode and java
thanks for the recommendation to leave xojo when i finish my projects I think before renewing my license
