As noted this HAS already been fixed for the next release - case # 27259
Sorry, either your reply of 13 hours ago didn’t show or I didn’t see it when I posted.
To get back OT: Lee, I’ve reverted back to 2012 as well. 2013r1 is unusable to me.
I to have reverted for coding but do my final compile with Xojo.
I cannot work under Windows (Win XP Professional Version 2002 SP3) at work with Xojo because there are too many crashes of the IDE. At the moment I program with Xojo under Mac OS X, this works quite well and then I compile the program for Windows.
The other difficulties like toolbar etc. are the same as described elsewhere, but XOJO is promising for me.
Positive: Cocoa works much better and is now mostly usable.
Negative: The new IDE blows chunks. It’s slow, confusing, buggy, and reduces my productivity by c. 50%.
Neutral: I have to learn to love it, since moving forward (Cocoa, iOS, 64-bit, etc.) is going to require me to suck it up and use that horror of an IDE.
When I revert to 2011r3 (last release to support PPC), it’s like a breath of fresh air.
FWIW, I’m working on a conversion of a Real Studio 2012 desktop project to a Xojo Web Edition project so I’m in both all day long. Granted I’ve been using Xojo since January and now with the latest beta but I’m finding it easier to get around. I’m now at the point where Real Studio looks odd to me.
Not that the Xojo IDE doesn’t need some changes to make it more developer friendly, but it does get better with time. There are focus issues that drive me crazy still and I’m still not convinced that the Navigator is better than the Project tab.
I cannot work under Windows (Win XP Professional Version 2002 SP3) at work with Xojo because there are too many crashes of the IDE.
I have the same issue, it’s just unusable on XP, every time I attempt to compile the IDE crashes.
i have RS archived on my development machine. But I havent used any of them since the Xojo launch. Except for once. That once I fired up some older RS IDEs (vs Xojo) to make sure that the issues I was running into was not a Xojo one.
guess I have been lucky.
As long Xojo inc, not taking it more seriously reducing the layout of the Libray and Inspector in the new beta. It will take a long time before I will use Xojo for Serious use on Windows.
I know Xojo inc saying they are working on it, but I have difficult to believe it can take that long time just adding another option to reduced the layout for Inspector and Library.
This how it looks like on Windows XP resolution 1280x800:

Sadly, it’s the same on the Mac side…I would have thought they’d fix for the next update…grrr.
Icons are too big, lots of wasted space -> lot of scrolling which is getting on my nerves
Prefer the old “hide empty events” to the new model
-> staying with REAL.studio for as long as I can, using Xojo only for the final compiles.
I try to revert to r2011 r4.3 ! but since i update my OS to OSX 10.7.5 2011r4.3 don’t work …
all my dev are stopped ! i can’t update my apps neither add them new features.
there is too critical bugs (e.g. The referenced bug “26795 - Application Super Class never fires it’s constructor” ). This bug appear long time ago !
i hope a new bug free release !
Downgrade your OS. I’m still happily using Snow Leo and have no plans to update. Note that newer Macs (from 2012 on) can’t run Snow Leo anymore.
Alternatively run Snow Leo Server in a Parallels or VMware virtual machine. That way you can still run the old versions. Note that you can only run the server version in the VM, but Apple is selling it very cheaply (around $25).
While not the most ideal situation, you know you can hide the inspector/library totally when you are not using them? Just click on the icon of whichever is displayed at the time, i.e. if the inspector is display, click the inspector button again and it will disappear. I also found out that you can make the library smaller by using it as a pallet, but the inspectors minimum size seems to be the same wether inline or floating.
They know and they hate needing to (we discussed this many times before). People want less clicks and less scrolls with the components library and control properties present all the time on a 1366×768 screen minimum.
I’m using Xojo and RS2011r4.3 in about equal measure. There are many minor and a few major problems I have with the new IDE, but it shows great promise.
What I find humorous is when comments like this are made about Windows, you often get snarky posts like, “Yeah…Windows” or “The MS WAY!!” or some ridiculous comparison between Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. The last time I made a derogatory comment about the Mac, I was accused of inciting a flame war, so I don’t go there anymore.
But as a serious question, the newer Macs won’t run a 4 year old O/S?? I was thinking about selling my 27" iMac with Snow Leopard, but if this is true, I don’t see any point in doing that if I’ll have to jump through hoops to test on Snow Leopard.
I mostly use RB2012 for my projects. Only new projects are codec/build with Xojo.
The major big issue I have: it is so slow to work with (OS X) it makes me pulling my hair more then ones every minute and my productivity drops to 50%.
That said, the latest beta is already much better and promising but still not 100% usable for bigger projects imo
But I am confident it will get better in the next versions.
Well, if you have a Apple Developer ID you can download older Server versions and run them in VMWare. I fired up 10.6 (Snow Leopard) the other day to do some testing on my iMac running Mountain Lion. It’s very convenient.
