Using Azure Trusted Signing for Windows App Installs (How to:)

Having your users see this when they run your installer isn’t a great experience.

I was shopping around for applicable digital certificates and found the certificate industry had imploded. A lot of companies acquired others, kept the old websites going, with a variety of pricing and, some support that couldn’t really explain one product / server over the other.

I see that Mike D brought this up last year. I didn’t see that post originally but heard about it from our friends over at DuckDB and a tutorial on how to set it up.

They recommended a tutorial, which I followed through on - it was a little outdated, so I made a few notes on the particular pain points of using the most recent UI of Azure. But you know, it really works well! You can set up a Trusted Signing subscription for only $9.99 a month.

You can find my notes right here as well as links to the original tutorial.

Hope it helps!

The verification process can be slow, but once verified, it’s absolutely the easiest way to get signing done these days. I’d recommend it over any alternative.

Correct. It took me close to two weeks to get validated because they did not validate my LLC. Once I submitted a question on their forums, it was four days before they answered, and then we resolved it within a few hours! However, it is so much easier than dealing with Yubi keys and messing around.
