FenOS - cross compatibility in one OS

Anybody on here heard of FenOS?

I see that OSFirstTimer host is excited about this OS and he thinks it will be a revelation. It seems like a really nice project if it is as good as it is hyped-up to be. Anybody thinking of switching on release?

http://www.myfenos.com

Thanks

They have a video posted on youtube (2011), nothing since then. No Demo, no technical info and they want $49.00 now.

Looks like a scam to take your money.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Pending solid information and reviews, I will consider their site as no more than what anybody can make with an HTML editor.

A quick search shows the only mention of it is on their site.

One can invent all sorts of vaporware and build a web site around them. It does not make them real. Caution !

I am wondering how OSFirstTimer host could so hyped up about this? I have tried looking for videos and cannot find much. I will just see what happens. OSFirstTimer will try it when it is released.

If you refer to http://osfirsttimer.freeforums.org/ same thing : do you really think reliable information can come from a forum that does not even have its own domain and relies of freeforums.org ? Anybody can start a forum that way.

If FenOS really was anything but a rumor, it would get rave reviews from all sorts of bloggers and journalists. Moreover, how come an unknown company comes up with a system that emulates transparently all current OSes when Oracle, VMWare and Parallels can only do one by one ? The only example of such thing I know of is CrossOver, spinned off from Wine, which originated in Linux, and allows it as well as Mac OS X to run some Windows applications without Windows. But compatibility is limited. As for running Mac OS X applications the same way, it looks extremely improbable. If hackintoshes still do not work with AMD processors, how come Johnnie come lately magically opens Mac apps on any PC ?

Smoke and mirrors. Humbug :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know what this forum is about and not sure if it is relevant to the OSFirstTimer I was talking. I would not say it is perfectly reliable but I was just saying. I should have probably linked you to there youtube channel:

Think I briefly stumbled on one of their videos a while ago. Isn’t it where someone simply records their mother trying out an Operating System for the first time?

If that’s what it’s about I wouldn’t give it the time of day. I remember at the time thinking “There’s 5 minutes of my life I won’t get back!”

Oliver. How can you not see how bogus the whole thing is ?

True. The learning experience you could get out of it is what a Mum first-time OS user would do using certain operating systems. Maybe you could get a few ideas on that.

I know how easy it is to make something bogus like this. But I am not going to judge until OSFirstTimer reviews. He will probably inform his viewers if it is bogus. I don’ particullaly think it is not bogus but I don’t particullaly think it is bogus either. I will have to see what happens when it happens.

Thanks for your opinion. I will have no disappointment if this is bogus so don’t worry about my opinion on whether this is bogus.

Given the amount of tech support I’ve had to give my Mum - I’m not going to get anything out of these videos! All a bit of waste of time really and I wouldn’t give any weight whatsoever to any “review” given here.

BTW - you realise your reply to Michel made no sense whatsoever!

Fair enough.

I have not done much tech support. Though I have been asked a lot for computer help.

I agree it is all a bit of a waist of time. I don’t really watch them often but I came across a video. There channel is pretty popular and I was wondering what it took for there channel to get big.

Oliver

I have to pick up on your spelling, sorry.

Their, as in belonging to them, not there, as in over there.

Waste, as in waste of time, not waist, as in belt around my waist.

You have just reported that you have finished your GCSEs - surely spelling is part of that still?

Don’t call him Shirley, but I really hope that Xojo adds native support for this operating system!

Looks, like Mom and Son attempting to hawk vaporware from Dad…

And it seems time has drifted to my waist as well… so perhaps I did waste as majority of it

I’d like to actually see it first
Second do what it claims
Third actually get some traction so there’s demand for this
And fourth IF you can run any Windows, OS X or Linux binary … sounds like we don’t need to DO anything other than keep supporting those

reminds me of UNI-OS (2011), which was a fake.

Guys, a product like this pops up every five years or so, claiming to be the end all be all of operating systems. Every time I’ve seen it, it’s been a scam (the first I remember was in the late 80’s when I was teaching at the local college). Just ignore them and let them walk away with someone else’s money.

Ha! And they’re making money by serving ads when you visit the URL on a phone.

I fear we might be facing a generation gap kind of thing, Michel. I have the same reaction here and I couldn’t even understand how Oliver could be putting so much weight on what “OSFirstTimer” does.

Then it clicked. “OSFirstTimer” is a youtube “celebrity”. It’s a kid who does videos of his mom testing OSes but has very little experience on his own. Essentially the channel started as a “submit your clip” and has grown beyond that by placing ads to get money.

But, as “Stampy” and others, Youtube “celebrities” (who’re essentially people that have learned to game the younger generation usage of youtube), there’s a sort of “credibility” that comes not from having experience, knowledge or valid opinions but from being sort of “famous” in a medium the younger generation considers respectable.

All my friends’ sons want to be “youtube celebrities” when they grow up (half of them want to be so doing game videos, Minecraft if possible). OSFirstTimer is another of them, with zero credibility if you dig any further than their youtube channel. Somehow, though, they’re taken as “experts” in OS interactions.

Since they’ve been hoking FenOS to rack up publicity and money, people who follow them fail to see how much of a scam it all is in the end.
