Hah. I had come to mention that a couple of months this came up in Hacker News and it was decided to be a scam until proven otherwise.

There’s plenty of reasons, although the amount of software that would need to pre-exist to enable it is the biggest hurdle.
They also raise the very valid point that taking money through Skrill is a huge warning flag, as it specifically doesn’t support reversing fund transfers.
That they say it runs on any hardware (which essentially means all CPUs are emulated instead of virtualized) means the proposal is technically impossible.
Lastly: The video could easily be fabricated and it would look exactly the same.
Less obvious is that the “Mac” window widgets are fake. It’s a Linux theme. All that is shown in that video is a Linux desktop with a Mac theme running a Windows app in unity mode.
It’s fake. Apparently the author is a known scam artist.
Plus, you can already do this with VirtualBox, VMWare, or Parallels on a Mac with “integrated mode”. The awesomeness of OS X. The YT video claiming to be “FenOS” is probably using integrated mode.
Another interesting tidbit: The site is using Skrill aka Moneybookers. This is bad because this is the only method for unreversable money transfers, and you can’t dispute purchases like you can with PayPal. The only way they accept is if the credit card used was stolen. Other than that your screwed.
Rather, the awesomeness of those programs
It works this way in all x86 platforms.
The video seems to be using unity mode from VMWare, especially considering when it was recorded.
I fear we might be facing a generation gap kind of thing, Michel. I have the same reaction here and I couldn’t even understand how Oliver could be putting so much weight on what “OSFirstTimer” does.
Then it clicked. “OSFirstTimer” is a youtube “celebrity”. It’s a kid who does videos of his mom testing OSes but has very little experience on his own. Essentially the channel started as a “submit your clip” and has grown beyond that by placing ads to get money.
But, as “Stampy” and others, Youtube “celebrities” (who’re essentially people that have learned to game the younger generation usage of youtube), there’s a sort of “credibility” that comes not from having experience, knowledge or valid opinions but from being sort of “famous” in a medium the younger generation considers respectable.
All my friends’ sons want to be “youtube celebrities” when they grow up (half of them want to be so doing game videos, Minecraft if possible). OSFirstTimer is another of them, with zero credibility if you dig any further than their youtube channel. Somehow, though, they’re taken as “experts” in OS interactions.
Since they’ve been hoking FenOS to rack up publicity and money, people who follow them fail to see how much of a scam it all is in the end.
I don’ think he is right because is has a fairly big channel, in fact I don’t think he is right at all and has a lot to learn. Just like me and anybody.
I don’t think he is the most computer literate person I have ever came across but enjoys doing what he does.
I contacted him a while back to inform him it could be a scam.
What did he say? “No it’s not”
I think the big give away is the fact that he is a one man band and has created an OS. Microsoft and Apple could have saved a whole lot of money if they had only employed one man. Perhaps they should learn from the man behind FenOS.
LOL (And I hate using LOL but LOL), I cant believe we are even discussing if this may or may not be a scam.
It just goes to show the gullibility of some people.
Yes Richard. Sorry if I sound rude but I am just saying I think we should all mute this thread now, it is getting boring and tiring and there is nothing really interesting that anybody can contribute but thanks everyone for your contributions.
