At last, do not forget that 50-60% of the English words comes fron French (actual of old French); remember the grand son of Vicking conqueror (Eric the Red ?) who leaved near Rouen (France) that conquers Britain around a millenium ago William the conqueror ?
Same king of things happens with the word Denim (for Jeans panths):
Denim comes from de Nimes (from Nimes, a city near Marseilles, Frances South).
But, I do not understand how Beijing goes to Pékin in French (as an example, but you can take FLorence / Firenza and so many examples ).
