Have you tried what Paul said, especially the part about running as another user (create one if needed) or as administrator?
Over the years I’ve installed RB/Xojo on a lot of computers and never had any problems. It’s sorta sad that this is your first experience with Xojo. At least you can see that we really are a community at work

Hi Dirk. The one thing that I did not try was Pauls suggestion that I try another user. So I set up another user and presto! it is working. I have joined a great community and feel privileged to have received the help from so many people.
Many thanks all. Now the fun starts, it looked a very different IDE to what I have used for more years than I can recall back from the Quick Basic days.
