I use TextExpander extensively with Xojo. Recently, I have run into an annoying circumstance. TextExpander becomes disabled. I get this message when I go to TextExpander, which will have a red cross-out line in the menu bar
Expansion is currently disabled.
Xojo has disabled TextExpander expansion.
TextExpander is unable to expand snippets because Xojo enabled secure input and failed to turn it off. This happens when sensitive information is being entered into a protected field within an app like a password field (OOO) to protect what you type.
To allow TextExpander to work again, quit or restart Xojo.
When I restart Xojo (annoying enough) it does not fix the problem. In my experience, I have to restart my Mac which is really annoying. Has anyone else experienced this and worked around it?
Most recently, I was just working on an app and have no memory of doing anything requiring “secure input” or anything like that. I did use Jade. Could that be it?
I remember this error message. It should only show when you enter a password and be gone afterwards. Even clicking out of a password field should fix the error. Can you pinpoint this to a change in Xojo or TextExpander version?
I still remember TextExpander as first app which went subscription. Haven’t looked back. A simple text expansion app doesn’t require a subscription.
I have noticed this a lot more globally with TextExpander recently. I have a TextExpander subscription, so I am up to date. I see it in other contexts, and I assume that I have entered a password somewhere at some point, and this is the result. Over a typical day, it is not uncommon for me to enter a password.
However, this particular situation, where the problem is attributed by TextExpander to Xojo is basically new to me.
I also wondered in my own mind if TextExpander was responding to some change in MacOS that was forcing it to do this because of some security update.
I keep up to date with MacOS.
