[h]Xippets - Xojo Developer Code Snippets[/h]
We have added the new category Best Practices and Developer Notes. This category is for posting information such as how to submit to MAS, writing declares etc. Please make use of this category and respond to any user comments you receive.
Added a Cross Platform menu item Xippet for an example of the type of thing we are looking for.
Would be excellent if someone could write a Declares Xippet.

I think this section should be authoritative and reliable. It needs to be kept up to date so that a user can know that it wasn’t just a quick knowledge dump which is abandoned and out of date before long. I think information should be vetted in this section, perhaps with discussion here on the Forums so that it can be tweaked to perfection before uploading.
Perhaps each item needs reviewed after a period of time (say, a year) to ensure it’s still accurate. I know that items in this category will, by their nature, likely be correct long after they are written, but there’s so much out-of-date information on the web that if you don’t want this to be another dumping ground, it needs some mechanism so that it is trusted and authoritative.
Just my 2 cents.
Gavin were you talking about producing PDF"s? If so pm me and we can talk about options for xippets site.
I think that would take too much time to administer. Maybe the act of voting, i.e. community feedback, could state good or bad.

I wonder if there should be a button, like the voting, that would flag it as “Outdated” after X people clicked it, or “Doesn’t Work” after X people clicked it. Again, administered by the community itself.
Just ideas, good or bad who knows.
Maybe. Maybe not. I just think it needs to be curated and maintained in some manner to become the place for people to go for best practices. There is loads of REALbasic, Real Studio and Xojo info and advice on the web already. IMHO, this category of the Xippets site needs something extra to become the community authority.

That sounds good for any of the Xippets categories, actually, but I’m not convinced public opinion is enough in the Best Practices section. E.g. public opinion might have suggested a while ago, that updating the UI from a thread was a useful evil but there are people who knew that it was never a good idea.
Hi,
if the xippet is not working or too obscure, the user will go to another and after two or three attempts, (s)he swill never come back.
That is why I think a “control” mechanism HAVE to be added.
What is too obscure to you? Who will only try 2 or 3 times? If a programmer only tries something 2 or 3 times and then gives up, their programming career is doomed.
Look on the forums. They must be a failure and programmers must be dropping off the forum like crazy. I see all sorts of posts “try this”, “try that”, “what about this?”, “did you try this?”
Also, what snippet on Xippets is too obscure or doesn’t work? I think we are trying to solve problems that don’t exist. Please wait until there is a problem to begin to solve it.
