Hi Everyone!
Some time back I ran a rather mysterious poll asking for opinions on whether a desktop or web app should launch first.
I really do want to launch the service, but I’m finding myself with not enough time to balance the projects that afford meals, and the free things I do on the side. So I’m asking if anybody wants to implement it.
The idea is a version controlled file sharing service, but with the ease of Dropbox. It’s aimed specifically for the Xojo community and would be free for everyone. The idea was to make links permanent on the forum, so that a year or two from now when someone finds a thread the downloads are still available.
The Version Control part comes into play when you want to update a file, you don’t end up with a new link. That way nothing breaks, and if you aren’t able to edit your original post the download still works. Plus, the old versions would be saved and archived just in case the old file was ever needed (say for like an older IDE version.)
The whole thing was going to be free because it was specifically for us here in the Xojo community. I was going to restrict it only to free non-commercial files (unless of course you wanted to chip in for the hosting.)
I secured a totally awesome domain name for it, and have permission from Xojo, Inc. to use it for this purpose. I got the clever idea for the domain name because the forum turns some of the new framework titles into links automatically.
If anybody wants to help implement this project with me, I’d be glad to take help to get the project going. If not, it could be some time before I’m able to launch the service. The faster it can be ready, the more things we can start archiving in the forum!
By the way, because I know you’re curious, the domain name is [h]Xojo.io[/h]
