This release turned out to be far more feature rich than we originally thought. Here are the highlights:
- SQL Editor improvements. Now select between “SQL GLOT” and “SQL Parse” tools to format SQL Queries. In the new dialog you can choose which tool to use. Each tool has its own set of preferences.
- DuckDB improvements. Updated to support recently released DuckDB 1.1.2. New connection profile for working with Motherduck.
- Chart Improvements. A little bit of polishing brings prettier charts to Valentina Studio, Valentina Reports Server and Valentina Reports ADK for Xojo
Lots of minor improvements, lots of fixes for forms, Query Editor and more.

If you are considering building a solution around DuckDB, you’ll be happy to know that Valentina Studio now supports the latest release of the DuckDB engine 1.1.2, which incorporates numerous fixes and improvements of DuckDB as well as backwards compatibility for the DuckDB file format back to version .9.

In Valentina Release 14.6, we managed to fit in a small glow up to the charts & graphs control in the Valentina Reporting system that improves overall appearance of your reports. This is a modest improvement that improves charts in all three products:
-
Valentina Studio PRO Reports Designer. Free playback in Reports Viewer | More Info…
-
Valentina Reports ADK. Reports system you can embed in your apps | More Info…
-
Valentina Server. Namely, in the included Valentina Reports Server | More Info…
And look at that - they were all included in Omegabundle for Xojo 2024! If you got Omegabundle for Xojo 2024, this is a free upgrade.

MotherDuck is a cloud based data warehouse promising that you can get going in minutes with lightning fast performance running DuckDB.
With the release of Valentina 14.6, Valentina Studio now supports a connection method that supports connecting directly to your DuckDB database running on the MotherDuck cloud based data warehouse.

Valentina Studio 14.6 gives you the option of parsing and displaying your SQL queries in the SQL Editor using either of two systems: SQLglot or SQLparse. You can also save options and preferences for use of either library.

It would have been helpful to get some hints about the difference between the 2 libraries. It’s great that it’s only possible to switch one time between the libraries before getting a warning that the feature is only available for Valentina Studio Pro.
The icons are generally too small all over Valentina Studio. I never even noticed that there are icons in the SQL editor.

That’s really the reason why we linked to the different projects. They are both popular and, really, really deep in terms of feature sets.I don’t think you can really go wrong with either. I can talk with the team about maybe doing a top differences article. If you see a feature on the one you like and the panel doesn’t have a way to adjust whatever the property is, you should let us know.
Both of them are being actively developed so you can also see the ‘engine version’ on the bottom left of the preferences.
