A few yrs back I used to make freeware (not anymore), now some of theese apps have been targeted by some scumbags for their deceiveing websites of “uninstallers”;
my apps are completely portable cos I made them with VB6 so there is no way in hell they need to be uninstalled from Windows since it’s just a simple EXE of less than a 1MB.
These are fake websites (completely lack contact info or any links to real life people or business) that with the excuse of the uniinstaller they inject malware.
In the long run they could harm my e-reputation, is there anything I can do to stop them ?
I had this happen to me with a game I did in 2006, it was an online game (Flash) but it was also released with a projector,I believe he installer version started from Asian blogger sites or it was hosted on my friends free hosted site, however the original website is archived so it could of come from there
TBH I thought the game was long gone, even I didn’t have a copy, it was only when someone mentioned it was on the interactive Fiction website that I took a look then found the installer which like you say tries to install other things
I got it removed but the installer must be elsewhere
Both me and my friend are credited for the game, hopefully its dead enough for no one to bother with
Not malware, but a slew of so called “shareware” sites routinely repack my archives in their own installers (“downloaders”), and the installers install browser bars and change the search engine setting, or even install stupid system optimizers. This is a real pest, but I really do not see what to do against that kind of practice.
