Testing AppStore build

I am sure that has been discussed but I can’t find any entry in that forum. My question is, how can one test an app build for the Appstore on its own machine?

I guess it has to do with Provisioning Profiles, I created one then add that profile to my computer system preferences profiles. If I try to launch already built apps, they still ask for an ID and password… Should I rebuild?

Mac App Store or iOS?

For Mac App Store; you need to create a test account in Apple’s developer portal and then use that account to ‘activate’ your test application.
