I always thought it was ridiculous that for so many years thre was no equivalent to cmd-shift-4 (Mac) in Windows. I literally use that 4-5 times a day, every day and it’s completely seamless.
For Windows I’ve always used Alt-PrintScreen to copy the foreground window to the clipboard, then open it in paint, crop, save. It’s about as many steps as with snipping tool.

The snipping tool has existed since XP (optional) but preinstalled since Vista. But I use Greenshot
