Revert to Old Style Wiki

This will probably get closed, as ‘won’t implement’ but I really abhor the new style documentation. Anyone with me on this one?

I find it to be incredibly cumbersome to use and it’s not very discoverable.

<https://xojo.com/issue/51752>

the framing is annoying for me.
And the fact that they are not really integrated.

100% with you. The new documentation is so much harder to navigate and read. In the old docs you can click History in the top right next to search, and then click a date to view the state of the documentation at that time. I use it all the time because the new docs are so hard to use.

For example earlier today I was going to point out how SortWith documentation shows which array goes where. But in the new docs it’s not as obvious as the old docs! I can’t point people to the documentation if it’s not actually easy to understand.

The worst is when something was in the older wiki, and now resides in the new one. It usually loses all the references that were at the bottom of the page, and somehow is much less adequate.

I‘ve been saying that since day one.

Now at #30

Well, I think I agree :-(. I don’t know really which one to use:

We have the language reference:

We have the reference guide:

We have the developer center: (that has it’s own “Language” link which is different than above.

I always preferred the off line language reference but since several releases ago there is a bug that displays the window off-screen. I noticed this when using dual monitors. I can’t seem to get it back.

But yes, I did prefer the earlier documentation, but it may be we are in a transition period. It seemed like it worked fine before, I wonder why it was changed?

It’s not a transition period thing for me. I have difficulty reading and comprehending the ideas in the new docs. It’s something about the way it’s organized is just far more difficult to use.

Btw the online documentation is especially unusable on an iPad (partly off-screen, no way to see it). Does nobody at Xojo actually check these things?

Please submit a report for this in Feedback.

If you’re on Windows, you might try just editing the registry and removing the keys:

Language Reference Left
Language Reference Top
Language Reference Height
Language Reference Width
Language Reference MinMaxed
from
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Xojo \ Xojo

Top on my list now, but I would need to pay a few hundred dollars to add up some points to it…

Top of my list.

Thank you Jason. That seems to have fixed the issue and I have done that before. I think some situation happens that causes it to reoccur, but I haven’t been able to nail this down. Anyway, I don’t want to hijack the thread but appreciate you getting me back up and running.

I’m a bit confused by this subject. There are 3 ways of getting to the docs - http://developer.xojo.com/home, http://documentation.xojo.com/ and the local help docs that ship with Xojo. If I change my preference to use online documentation then documentation.xojo.com is presented which doesn’t look much different that it did 5+ years ago.

What am I missing?
