Apparently RCDI has been suing companies left and right because they patented the idea of “remote configuration” in 2006. In the Xojo sense, this would include configuration of the Xojo Cloud. Cisco, ADT, OnStar, and a number of other companies have already been sued under infringement of their “broad claim” patent. Anything which is connected to a network, and remotely configures or makes changes somewhere else, violates their patent rights. This is also includes selling products over the internet?!?! RCDI received it’s right by filing in the eastern district of Texas (the extortion district). Contact your local representative and request to pass the patent reform laws.
Here’s one bad example of RCDI:

Stupid patents like this may phase out “instant” notifications. Eclipse has patented “notification” technology as the paperwork was pushed by the rubber-stamp. They may be going after Apple, Facebook, Twitter, and any other service which offers “notifications”

Many years back I came up with the idea of voice-controlled cameras.
(Digital cameras ship with loads of helpful ready made ‘effects’ settings… even simple stuff like using a wide aperture to throw the background out of focus…
If theres a shot you want, trying to navigate the menus to set the ‘effect’ is pretty slow and unintuitive.
So press a button, and say ‘EFFECT’, ‘CLOSEUP’ would be great.)
Trouble is (of course) I probably didn’t think of it first.
Canon have a patent. Konica have another. But they appear to have done nothing with it, despite the technology needed to implement this being cheaper and easier every month.
You can bet that if someone DOES bring out such a camera, I’ll buy one in the 2 months it’s on sale before they sue…

Would you believe in the early days of microcomputers there was a turkey who patented color screens ?
Yeek !
It is ample time to stop patents abuse.
