Provisional Profiles and Xcode

A couple of questions:

  1. AppleStore submissions do really nead provisional profiles? Up to now I never used them, since to my few testers I send the app packged. And AppleStore did not complain.

  2. Since I submit to the Store only Desktop apps, and since I do not need Notarization, does Xcode need to be installed?
    It seems that AppWrapper signs my apps even without it. My 256 GB SSD has 200 GB free space, so there is actually space for it, yet I’d be happy if I could live without Xcode eating 20 GB for nothing.
