Same experience here, and that’s why I have had an idea for a new xDev column … (started writing a few days ago)
I am now at a level where I do my own thing. I risk losing my code idea when making
it available for the public and some else incorporates it later. Heck who’s paying my license renewal ? It’s me right ?
Write some articles for xDev

It doesn’t pay much, but it got me the last Omegabundle and will pay for my next license … or the MBS plugins …
I’ve been looking for goods projects to learn from for ages and gave up as it was all for purchase.

I think you are kind of unfair, here. This forum is a blatant example of people regularly sharing code for free, and even creating some for others. Proof if needed being the numerous free projects posted in this very thread.

I have myself shared quite a bit of code and do intent to continue. However, when it comes to projects that take months to complete, it is only natural that a developer ask for a return on his investment.

The best wayto learn is to actually make a start, post your code, and see what others can do with it.

People here love to tinker and improve little projects …

I didn’t want to generalize and wasn’t naming the forum. Yes, there are a lot of people
contributing free codes/declares or being very helpful in any way.

The bad thing about this forum being a good source is that most code is scattered in threads or, once uploaded in the past, not available anymore. So you gotta look for a reliable source (= purchase). The worst thing I’m missing however is, while sitting on the intermediate level , the lack of input so I am somewhat to bound to purchase code to learn from.

Would be nice if someone could revive my old http://rbgarage.com idea :stuck_out_tongue:

I used to park my car there often. So much work for someone with so little reward though.

Or Xippets …

Curating such a thing is not simple, though.

I know this very well.
Perhaps some sort of reward can be found.

As this seems to be a hijacking thread, I continue this tradition and share some links to generous contributions of members of this forum. I’m sure this list is not complete, but just to show the spirit of this community. There is some really cool stuff in this list and I’m sure some people have spent a lot of time in order to create it. Chapeau!

Yeah - but less impressive (you know - size matters and stuff)

Search at the top of the forum for
and you get all the threads that contain snippets

It seems impressive but most projects are outdated. I just picked a few out of it and they doesn’t run.

haha funny to read and I am always in favor to see more snippets here in the forum. that’s what a forum is meant for. To share thoughts, snippets and improvements and this works best with GPLed (or LGPLed) code

BSD/MIT/Apache licenses are much preferable to GPL IMHO

we’re about starting religious debate

GPL is both a license + a philosophical statement about how “sharing” must work if you use that license.

BSD and others like it are much more permissive.

Its why we no longer ship certain mysql plugins - the license would cause us and you problems and we wanted to avoid putting us or you in a licensing quandary so we do not ship them. Problem solved.
