From Quora today…
What are the most popular computer programming jokes?
- A man is being executed by firing squad. The captain asks him if he’d like a cigarette. He says no, he’s trying to quit. You wouldn’t have a nicotine patch, would you? The captain says “No! We don’t patch the executable!”
- How did the programmer use up a whole bottle of shampoo? The instructions said “Lather, Rinse, Repeat”.
- A cop sees a man pushing a car backwards up a long steep hill in the mountains. He pulls over and asks the man what he’s doing. The man says ‘I’m a computer programmer. My brakes failed at the top of the hill and it took me all this way to stop. Nearly got killed! So I’m pushing it back up the hill to see if it happens again.’
LMAO!
This usually happens when I’m trying to sleep or nowhere near my computer.
Oh boy that’s me.
I think that’s all of us
On Windows 11 if you press left control twice, it shows a focus circle where the pointer is without moving it. I always let this option on.
Also available on Windows 10, thanks a million for this tip .
Amazing storage. It could hold 15 large 48K apps at once when it was released. Later it doubled and you could include the manuals.
Today it is just the save icon that no one could replace yet.
Well, we’re used to it now. So therefore it doesn’t need changing. Same with road signage. Which is why it’s annoying that signs from mobile have made their way onto the Desktop for no reason that I can see. Like the checkbox, a perfectly good symbol that seems to have been replaced by the slidey thing where I can never work out which is ON and which is OFF. And which doesn’t emulate a real-world object.
You may say “you are used to it”. Young people don’t know the object and history.
This is a zoo icon:
Guess why there isn’t a T-Rex depicted there?
Never seen a T-Rex in a zoo.
And they will have seen the floppy as a Save icon once they started using a laptop for doing real work. They might not have known what it was forinitially, but experiment or asking would soon tell them. Or even mousing over it.
But you know the animal and his picture.
They never saw a diskette too. It’s inevitable, one day, the save icon will be anything else. Be prepared.
The situation is worse: neither Firefox nor Xojo have icons… (only running application at this momment here).
MS Office has the diskette in the toolbar.
Sorry, I was thinking in the Menus (because you were talking about Save that use a 3.5" flopy icon)…
Yes. And 90% of other software too. Currently. But it was 100% few years ago.
