Programming - General Discussions

Apart from Off-Topic, I was thinking that it would be useful to have a category “Programming - General Discussions”.

From my observations about 75% of the “Off-Topic” discussions are related to programming and/or technology (ie. this one +1). The reason being there is no other suitable category. I know there’s already a “GENERAL” category, but it it doesn’t quite fit.

Off-Topic should be reserved for exactly that purpose. ie." What book are you reading?" (which is a good one already on here) What film do you like, or what music do you like, do you play music when writing code, what got you into programming, what other hobbies… etc… many discussions to be had.

So, my question on the newly created “Programming - General Discussions” category  is Does Xojo have an equivalent to FileMakers “Global Calculations”"? Perhaps a Computed Property?

btw. Books recently read, and re-read is George Orwell’s 1984 and Animal Farm - Music, Pink Floyd. A rather good combination I think.

What is wrong with the “General” channel ?

The question you ask would seem quite legitimate there. You may want to start a thread with it.

I think the General channel is perfectly appropriate for this question.
