Predictions about PC ownership becoming a thing of the past

Anyone seen this Article or others like it? I’m not buying it. I know AI will be able to do a lot of things, but you need something to get there. And, as developers, we need to be able to test our code locally.

What are your thoughts?

He’s kind of wrong. Memory prices are rising but transitorily. The supply gap will start to be filled soon, in the next 24 months. Guess what? Asia, including China, will start to produce more digital components to supply those western demands that the western is not solving.

But… I see pro desktops losing space to lighter ones for the general public and more remote services with an always connected from anywhere future. We are going towards “pocket computers” (powerful smartphones) with accessories like a dock at home and at the office, and/or a wireless screen and a wireless keyboard with a trackball you can put in your backpack.

Devs may prefer something more “laptop” for a good time.

I agree with Rick.

I highly doubt the PC will die. It seems the future will be increasingly open in terms of options and connected at every level.

It’s no coincidence that Apple is releasing something like the Neo.

Notice that its CPU comes from the iPhone.

“No matter how inevitable the AI-takes-all scenario may sound, as long as there is a person in the world who still wants to own their means of computation, we will be here to build the hardware that enables it, that means computers that you can own at the deepest level and do what you want with, whether that is choosing your OS, modifying your hardware, or even just keeping your data and computation local rather than leased from the cloud.”

I hope Apple will just release a Mac Mini Neo for a low price to get the switchers.
