dont laugh, this exactly happend in a small German village during votes for major. The far-right Trump-like Candidate was confronted with the question that a paragraph of the city law says, all houses have to show their given Housenumbers in a good visible fashion. How he could explain that many people are using arabic signs and what will he do against this “arabification”. His (expected) answer: “When I am Major, this will end. Then all houses will show their numbers in an orderly way.”

Let me say something against what most people said:
Learning arabic numerals can be useful and might be something to teach at school. Can be handy in many situations. At the same time it has not to be expected as a second step to adopt them and replace/integrate with the western system, unless the amount of people using arabic numerals becomes the majority.
At the same time I don’t see why a village in Germany should allow to have arabic numerals for the house numbers. It’s Germany and it’s supposed any arabic speaking will at least learn to read numerals as they are written in country where they are guest.
I’m Italian and I live in Germany, as many other italians, but I never expected and never will expect the germans should start learning italian language if not for they will/pleasure.
That said, I think the best approach would be to use a grain of salt and evaluate case by case.

The point here… is that ARABIC Numbers are already taught in US (and European schools)
as ARABIC Numerals are 0…1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8…9
it has NOTHING to do with what alot of people are assuming is adding Islam/Muslim teachings …
