Perplexity useful for me

I understand that Xojo is working on getting some sort of AI tool set up to enhance searching of the Documentation.

But that day has yet to arrive. In the interim, I have had a lot of luck with Perplexity.

Perplexity

Sometimes using the built-in search of the Documentation is all you need. It is good for single word searches. But more complex concepts or multi-word searches can make it not so straight forward.

Using Perplexity one starts the search with the word Xojo (I am glad that the powers that be changed the name from RealBASIC years ago) and then go on to ask the question. In my experience, it provides very useful well-formatted answers primarily using the resources of the Documentation and the Forum.

Light use of Perplexity is free at the moment.

P.S. I am a discomforted by the issues surrounding Perplexity “stealing” data from commercial print media, but I do not have trouble using it in this context.

I asked it to:

  1. ‘Write code in Xojo to encrypt a String’ and it did a decent job with a Method.
  2. Then I clicked on one of the suggestions to explain the different between AES and Blowfish and it was quite comprehensive.
  3. Then I asked it to ‘Write code in Xojo to copy a file to an AWS Bucket’ and it wrote it, but using the CURLMBS plugin (I didn’t ask it to exclude plugins).

Then it cleared the screen and asked me to sign up!

Very nice.

I use Poe. Some minor issues occur.

somehow the xojo online search just miss a context and instead it show all related stuff out of my interests …

usually i jump from a method to the class to read about all provided methods, properties, events.

Tried Perplexity with my own app instead of Xojo. The answer was certainly good enough for a new user of my app, and much less confusing than using Google to do the same thing.

Perplexity hasn’t really clicked for me, but I pay for Claude and use it daily, it’s fantastic.

Your link should have been: www.poe.com

I use Monica too… at https://monica.im
