Parallels Desktop 20 Upgrade

Good morning (o;

My Parallels Desktop license expired a while ago and now I received an email where I could upgrade with 55% off…

On their website I see that a new license is only 20% off…

And even more confusing, when I click on renew license I would be charged the full price.

So I’m kinda confused now which option to choose…I guess that the 55% upgrade is only from standard to Pro version…

I used Parallels in the past but switched to UTM. https://mac.getutm.app
It is free and very good too, so give it a try and see if you still want to pay for Parallels.

Hmm…sounds very interesting

I assume I can‘t directly import a Parallels Arm Windows 11 VM?

I installed a new Windows 11 ARM version using UTM itself but I think it is possible to import the Parallels VM too.

VMWare is now free.

Wow….

Do they make now such big money with their cloud?

This keeps their name in evidence in the VM business helping them to keep their VM Server product$ relevant.

FWIW, I used UTM for a while and went back to parallels for day to day use. It’s an interesting experiment, but I ended up just buying an Intel Mac so I could continue virtualization of Intel OSs.

Odd…when i click download Fusion I just get this on my account:

Ah…found the link on 9to5mac:

Was able now to use the previous Parallels Windows 11 Arm VM.

VMWare can import and convert it, but you then you need to create a new, custom Windows Arm image and then select the previously converted VM image.

Otherwise VMWare Fusion thinks it is an Intel image and refuses to launch it.
