Packages installer useless for updates?

I’ve started using Packages - it works great for first installs… It installs all my datafilee in system library>application support

However, I do a lot of updates and it seems that when I run it, it deletes everything in the system>library?support giving me an error when I run my software… the files have been deleted…

Is there anyway that I can install my app without deleting files in the aforementioned folder?

What Am I missing?

I just use the standard Apple installer package for updates; it only replaces the application it’self whereever it is on the users hard drive.

If your newer app runs ‘translocated’ then that isn’t the folder that you think it is.
Your app should regenerate support files on first run if the folder is empty/missing, to avoid this kind of issue
