2014r1 PR tells us 250,000 Xojo users around the world.
Fortunately, they do not post once a day !

Well, it would be interesting to know how many did buy an update within last 2 years.
Because people who buy a license in a promotion and never use it should not count…

I’m not sure that not upgrading can be used to indicate that they’re not using the product though. Even I have a product that’s stuck on 2011r1.1.
I have not paid for an upgrade in the last two years… nor will I pay for one for the next 3 years… my subscription is good until 2017
So that probably is not a good metric for counting “users”
how come dave??
Well if you only count people that PAID in the last 2 year… I for one would not be counted now would I? yet I have an active and fully paid subscription, and am an avid and active user
We don’t quote the number of users using the product at any given time because that’s difficult to calculate. We know from surveys that there are users using older versions who are quite happy with them and haven’t found a need to renew yet. Also, it’s not the standard in the software business. So someone comparing the size of communities would be making an apples to oranges comparison.
But what really matters is the activity level of the community. Xojo users are friendly, helpful and almost always wiling to go the extra mile for their fellow community members which is just great. I’ve heard people on the forum say that the community is one of the primary reasons they use Xojo and I will be forever grateful to those of you that participate and help make it great for everyone.
Word. Absolutely.
This recalls me something I discovered while working at Apple (France) in 1992: I met an old guy who used his Mac Plus (screen was 512 x 384), never upgrade his OS version and still used the provided MacWrite, MacPaint, etc. on its 68000 machine. He was happy with it. He comes to us because we were “displaying” the new Mac CLassic (I think it was that). I asked him about its feeling on the monitor…
And yes, getting answers here is a great plus. Make a search for providing an answer is nice too.
Add 10,000+ additional users more as bundle has already crossed the 10K limit to unlock the xojo license
Good promotion for new Xojo users.
After playing with RB/XOJO and getting enthousiastic for this environment, my biggest concern was the community. Without you feel using stuff which can all of a sudden stop existing. I checked a few things: - will the phone being answered when I call Xojo headoffice ? answer: sometimes - is there serious activity on the forum and feedback-application ? answer: yep - is the forum fully in use ? answer: sure. Conclusion: XOJO inc and all active users do a good development job, so I bought my Pro License.
Welcome Joost. And if it means anything to you, we have been in business since 1996. Not many technology companies can say that.
18 years !! I fully agree Geoff, RB/Xojo inc has shown to be a stable technology company, still going strong in frequently releasing innovative RAD solutions.
Oh, I started my small company in 1996 too, and yes, also still alive and kicking …
18 years is an accomplishment.
We just got acquired by a larger company in February. When I was asked by a member of my new staff (who will report to me) when our company was started, I said, “2001, about 14 years…” His reply was, “Wow, I was 10 years old when you started your company.”
I reminded them that they now work for me… smiled and he looked at me and said, “Oh, I mean, thats cool… not that your old, your not old… well, you know…” – it made me laugh.
I feel the same way. I’ve been using Xojo/RB off and on since 5.5, sometimes renew, sometimes don’t but have always crept back. I was a diehard Delphi user until I purchased a Macbook many moons ago. One of the major things I like is that there is ultimately very little you can’t do. Usually someone has done it before you and you can find it on the forums (new & old). Delphi seems to be imploding and VB.NET seems to get more complicated to do simple stuff every release!
Last year I went PRO, and likely I will renew as I’m actually enjoying doing what I hope will be a SaaS in the web edition. Is it perfect, no, would I like more built-in UI components, you bet. I can work around these, and overall they are responsive.
It’s a nice community, has its moments as all “pubs” do (that’s my Brit speaking) but right now, there isn’t really a quicker way to knock out a prototype that becomes production real quick! As Geoff mentions, 18 years is a long time. Don’t plan to retire just yet!
