No 64bit :(

Oh dear - still no 64bit desktop support in the latest Xojo. I was hoping it would be introduced before my license expired.

Wait for 3.

Do you mean R3.0 or R2.3?

R2.3 was released today, no 64bit.

2015 R3

2.3 ? 3.0
Today 2015 Release 2 (bug fix version 3) was released

2.3 is just a correction of a few critical bugs in 2.2.

The version with 64 bit should be 2015R3. It has not reached Beta yet, though. So don’t hold your breath.

I would not be too impatient on this one. 64 bit is far from trivial to do for Xojo.

And, cherry on the cake, 64 bit will probably break most of MacOSLib and other declares. And possibly older plugins and custom controls. So it will not be turney situation for any Desktop program containing more than pure Xojo.

Where 64 bit will be a marked improvement will be for Linux. Already, Ubuntu does not contain the 32 bit libraries, and most run of the mill servers are now 64 bit and require gymnastics to condescend running 32 bit, if at all.

Some - but they should be fixable
The only thing we’re quite sure of that will mostly break is WFS which will need a big update to work in 32 or 64 bit mode.

Plugins should be updated to use the new SDK which would insulate them from many issues.
Custom controls in Xojo code should be fine - unless they use declares that need adjusting

I’m not holding my breath, It will come when it comes.

I would be very surprised if Xojo released a major feature like 64 bit in a point release over a major release (like R3).

It was more like a random hope, than an expectation

years…

As long as Mac OS X doesn’t become 64bit only, I won’t need to ever upgrade.
Hopefully the actual OS won’t become 64bit only for a long time?

I suspect that’s still at least five years out, since the latest version of Microsoft Office on OS X is still 32-bit (though they’re close to having it be 64-bit). I do expect the Mac App Store to start requiring 64-bit builds within the next year or so, though.

I’m only interested in the actual OS, as I am no longer developing in Xojo - apart from for personal use.
So long as the OS remains 32bit compatible for another year - I’ll be happy. By then I will have recreated everything as a web app.

Thanks.
