New Look Cross Platform Database Application

yes, that would work.

1 window and 2 containers. as the user clicks on the tree menu on the left, it will change the container on the right. Also what is nice about tree view, you can organize it to keep things as simple as possible.

Yes, icons8.com allows this.

Seems you already got your artist icon there. I would suggest using the Magritte icon instead of Münch for Artist in the toolbar.

Rich, what happen if i have a client screen and a stock screen and i am in the middle of the stock screen and need to open the client screen when a client called and i need to find out about this client, how would that work?? so basically 2 container at the same time.

keep in mind the left side is just a menu to help organize how the user navigates the application. You can always hide and show containers as needed. This is similar to having a traditional menu bar up top. Another way to approach it, maybe its possible to append and remove containers on the right… a user can load up the containers they need to perform there action. when done, have a button that can remove the container from the right.

The ultimate goal for any UI is to minimize the amount of steps that a user has to click / type to get to section of the application to perform some action.

i see what you mean. so instead of showing the main menu in the middle of the screen, the main menu will be display on the left hand side of the screen where they can move it anywhere else if they want to and i can keep all the window exactly the same as before.

stack view menu with all option collapse

all expanded

it would be good if they put the required tools they use for the projects
like pluing and pure XOJO code

what do you mean??

Hi Richard, for Icons, try out the Icons8 app, the look really nice. I use them for my web-apps alle the time.

https://icons8.com

With all due respect Richard, regardless of your wonderful coding, the “order of relevance” in the above example is confusing.

In the “western” sense of reading, it would be more useful to show prominence from left to right, then down the page, and therefore the “hard gray box” does look out of place.

I’m going through a similar situation at the moment. ie. How to get my program (which works great,) to a point that the User can use it easily.

In your case, if “Search Clients & Contacts” is most relevant, then it should be at top left. Try to go through an exercise in your mind of how the “User” would use it. Being the developer, it’s hard to see, but useful to take a step back, and have another look.

Perhaps I’ve mentioned on this forum before, but I’ll say it again. How you “convey” your software solution to the user is just as important as the code behind it. That is to say, there is no point having all the “bells and whistles” when no one can, or will ever use it. It’s a harsh reality.

As a “Software Developer”, we now have the “tools” to take ideas, and take those ideas to fruition (Xojo being one of those tools). The harder part then becomes how to “entice” the user to use our software creations?

I guess this doesn’t directly help you Richard - pm me if you wish to discuss further.

Cheers.

No, sorry Richard - you don’t have to pm me (unless of course you have something nasty to say)

Why not discuss here - I’m going through a similar situation, surely we can all benefit from your situation? and mine - and all…

@Richard Duke - For the moment, i just like to say that for me, these Screenshots already looking much more modern then the first Screens. Already well worth the effort i’d say.

Hi Richard Duke

If you use a ListBox that is no XOJO IDE native and you use one from einhugur.com or other

which icons are you talking about?

A whole pile of “pretty” icons does NOT make a successful programming solution.

Please, let us not lead Richard down that path - or anyone else… bahhh… grumphhh…

Nothing is just that it looks good

I will say that if I had been using the original app and saw this change, I’d be very happy to pay for a version upgrade - even if the underlying functionality had not changed significantly.

@ Alexis and Tim Jones:

What a load of concocted bullshit!!

All Richard was asking for was a way forward - I tried to facilitate that.
