read the following blog :http://www.hanselman.com/blog/AnnouncingNET2015NETasOpenSourceNETonMacandLinuxandVisualStudioCommunity.aspx
This was talked about here: https://forum.xojo.com/17293-net-everywhere/0#p143462
It’s the pro only channel so you may not be abel to see it. Basically it looks like it’s mostly backend stuff. No GUI apps possible as far as anyone can tell. Also, it will probably take a while to get it to work properly on Mac OS X and Linux.
But it’s worth keeping an eye on.
What is this?
It says integrated IDE with Tools: Designers, Editors, Debuggers, Profilers, etc.
They don’t make it easy to figure out what is what…
I’ve not downloaded it as I use VS 2013 Pro, but from what I’ve read VS Community is going to take the place of the Express Edition. It’s supposed to have many features the Express Edition didn’t have.
VS Community is essentially VS Pro with licensing restrictions.
Actually, from the Q&A section of this page:
“Any individual developer can use Visual Studio Community to create their own free or paid apps.”

The first part is more worthy of bold. Or even the next bullet point:
Sounds typically Microsofts: confusing, unclear, bosted, to many shows at the same time, a little bit of everything and not clear which product for whom and what the prices and licensing conditions actually are … They are not lean enough to bring out a product as straight forward as Xojo.
Actually the bolding was Shane’s not Microsoft’s. Microsoft was actually very clear on the licensing terms in three short bullet points.
Yes it was Microsoft’s.
The whole question and answer:

Q: Who can use Visual Studio Community?
A: Heres how individual developers can use Visual Studio Community:
Any individual developer can use Visual Studio Community to create their own free or paid apps.
Heres how Visual Studio Community can be used in organizations:
An unlimited number of users within an organization can use Visual Studio Community for the following scenarios: in a classroom learning environment, for academic research, or for contributing to open source projects.
For all other usage scenarios: In non-enterprise organizations, up to 5 users can use Visual Studio Community. In enterprise organizations (meaning those with >250 PCs or > $1MM in annual revenue), no use is permitted beyond the open source, academic research, and classroom learning environment scenarios described above.[/quote]

And you just pointed out that the bolding was your emphasis not Microsoft’s.
In the end this thread is only remotely relevant to Xojo.
I’m done.

Actually, yet again, SG is promoting another product. Ignore.
It’s only the server side part. .Net Core. On Linux and OS X it’ll install ASP.Net to serve .Net ASPX web pages and web services. Full stack only on windows. So, for desktop apps, Xojo still king over .Net on OS X.
