Monterey

I know Monterey isn’t out yet but it’s expected sometime next month.

Is anyone running it yet and, if so, are there any major issues with the current released version of Xojo (2021 2.1)? I’m considering upgrading to the latest Monterey beta to test out my app but am wary in case Xojo is hosed by it.

I have been running Monterey for a few weeks now and it has been OK for me except:

  • The Finder used to lock up once a week (I keep my iMac on 24/7) needing a relaunch, but this has gone away in the latest beta
  • I run multiple Projects fullscreen at once and sometimes it goes into window-war with it jumping amongst the screens a dozen times, when I change screen once, then stops. This happens when one screen is NOT fullscreen. Not sure if this is Xojo or Monterey.
  • The TabPanel NEVER shows up until you click on it - it is blank (see below)
  • My apps (old, new and debug) seems to run just fine, but every so often items will be invisible in a window until you click on them eg as a Host, the Zoom Contextual-click preferences window lower items don’t show up! So expect refresh issues.

As a positive note, my Parallels VMs running macOS Catalina and Windows 10 are working fine. I develop for Desktop, Web and iOS, and all environments are working for debug.

Not really many issues with Monterey. On BS I had lots of kernel panics on the M1 Air. On Monterey the computer just restarts or becomes unusable.

No issues with Xojo.

No issues with my app.

Not me on MacBook Pro M1/8GB, last Big Sur.
I had a “two times the same files” error, but it happen to be my fault: I do not redim an Array Property (and never run more than two times the project…)

Not seeing that here.

These are still Kernel Panics, only difference is like when 10.14 shipped and Apple stopped reporting NSExceptions, they now don’t display Kernel Panics.

Seems like it’s not too bad, save for the TabPanel issue.

This is how Zoom looks before and after I mouse over the options with the latest Monterey beta and Zoom version:

Also, the Monterey Safari is a little unstable with some of my ancient Web 1.0 projects - they quit out or show in a different font. Opening them in FireFox fixes this.

Have you considered either partitioning on your drive so you can have multiple versions of the OS on the same disk or getting an external SSD and installing it there? I have seen people claiming that Monterey doesn’t install correctly on external volumes, but I have no experience to back that up.

I have my drive split with 3 partitions, one of current BS and one for whatever and the last one is where I store my data and apps, this way I can blast either OS partition knowing what’s important is safe.

I really do miss the days of being able to have multiple “System Folders” on the same drive. Especially in the last 7 years or so.

Oh, and if you go down the partition route, 64GB is plenty for Catalina, but not BS, Monterey is on a 128 GB partition, albeit I think I could have made it only 96, future proofing eh?

My M1 Air with 8GB RAM works just fine. I know this does not help, but maybe a reInstall of the OS or a replacement of the machine is needed to fix your issues?

128GB machines owner’s will be happy…

And Apple will no more be able to sold computers wi-th only 128GB of mass storage… (or want to sold far more iCloud accounts ?)
:frowning:
