Microsoft going x-plat

So Microsoft bought a company that makes it easier to create x-plat games using Visual Studio… Lets hope that they don’t go head to head with Xojo.

They rely on Xamarin for the x-plat part.

To be honest, I think that’s where everybody will end up going in the future… cross-platform. I predict the last one on that field will be Apple, and it’ll be at last resort. Microsoft has already made some interesting moves lately, open-sourcing some of the .net architecture, etc. Interested in seeing how the next few years plays out in the development world among the bigger players…

Apple already compiles their code x-platform.
Thats how iCloud, iTunes, Safari already work .
Just have a peek at the dll’s they include.

They just don’t expose ability that to us (yet)

Well the basic definition for MS’ point of view for x-plat always was: “Multiple Windows Versions”
While the french company “only” adds a better layer to VS/ Unity this does not mean that MS will do x-plat in the future.

Just my 5 pence…

Syntaxtree is not a game engine, it just makes Visual Studio easier to use as the code editor for Unity.

Its Microsoft trying to make Windows Phone relevant to iOS / Android developers who use Unity. They paid Unity to include support for it a few version back, and to make it free (though you need Unity PRO to use the pro features with it).
