__macosx?

Hello,
I am not yet familiar with macOS at all, but I want to learn more before buying a mac.
I have some XOJO examples as .rbp files, and I see often a folder called '__MACOSX, including a .rbp file with the same name. This file is only 1 kB.
What is this file ?
How to use ? I suppose I need a mac to be able to do something with that file ?

That may be kind of “garbage” from a compressed macOS file (zip file), for example; as it is the case with the invisible .DS files not necessary under Windows.
