License question

I am thinking of buying the 99 dollar license to use Xojo on my Mac. I understand that with this I can compile a stand alone app and have updates for 1 year, but will I still be able to create stand alone apps when the license expires after 1 year?

Yes, you can. The license is not a rental.

Thanks, Beatrix!

you can use any version that was released during your license was valid. no updates after it expires. well until you renew it.

And will this 99 dollar license allow me to build apps for Mac and Windows or does that take 2 licenses?

Mac only. To build for more than one platform either requires two licences or the Desktop Licence.

The lite license (99 dollars) is platform specific. If you buy a Mac lite license, you can build for Mac only. If you buy a Windows lite license, you can build for Windows only.

I started with a Windows lite license working on a Mac.

Just a note, the lite license will only let you save in binary format. If you want to use version control you will need the Desktop license (for Windows, Mac and Linux).

Just Mac, but also note that you cant acces most databases.

But in the trial version, I can check the boxes to create Mac apps and Windows apps and others. So with a Mac license, I will not be able to use these options and can only build for Mac?

That is correct…

Ah, OK. Thanks. That makes it a little less interesting.

on the trial version, you cannot BUILD an application. you can only RUN the project

Yes, I understand that. i thought however that with a license I would be able to build for all platforms.

thanks.

That is one of the differences between the $99 and $299… $99 is build for one, $299 is build for all DESKTOP [edit]

The Free version lets you RUN for all, to entice you to get the $299 version

All Desktop.

Targetting iOS, web, console and services is not included in the $299 one. It’s $299 extra for each of those or $699 in total for one license to trule rule them all (er… build for all  )

Thanks to everyone who chimed in here  Just to clarify, a Xojo Lite license lets you build/compile for the designated platform only - though you can develop, run and test on any platform. Xojo Desktop allows you to build for Mac, Windows and Linux and includes full database support and the ability to save in version control formats.
