I need Info...

Hi, I am a RB 2007r3 user still and now that everybody wants to be able to use their app from their PC, android tablet, etc. I am needing to make a web based program to replace my Windows PC only version of German language learning software. In fact I want o completely re-design it anyway. (QUES 1) Is this new software going to do it for me ? I plan to have everything i need compiled into the program but want users to be able to log in and run the software and use it… (QUES 2) And how do you go about adding an avatar ? I tried to look it up but saw something about Wordpress… i don’t do any of that garbage so if that is required i guess i won’t be adding an avatar. (QUES 3) Who can host this built software properly online, i am not looking for problems and aggravation. Does XOJO do this ? I still keep wanting to type Real Studio  Thanks to who ever can throw some answers my way.

                                  Kevin

o.k. went ahead and knocked ol’ avatar outta the way, so just needing answers on the other 2… thanks

Q1. Probably yes.
Q2. Can be done without wordpress.
Q3. Xojo are planning a solution.

Q1: Hard to say, depends on your features. When saying Learning Software I have something like Learning Cards in mind. So basically it should be possible.

Q3: I am using virtual Jiffyboxes with Ubuntu Servers. Christian from MBS made a good Howto Document to start with (http://www.monkeybreadsoftware.de/realbasic/webapps-jiffybox.shtml), Ubuntu Server Documentation will do the rest (https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/serverguide/index.html). Jiffybox is the virtual server solution from Domainfactory in Munich (http://www.df.eu/de/cloud-hosting/cloud-server/).

EDIT: I forgot to mention: When doing eCommerce stuff you have the obligation to keep all your data in Germany. German Finanzamt is not allowing to store Documents, Billings etc. outside esp. in oversea or USA. So basically an App or Store, which will send Invoices, Delivery Messages etc. by mail or PDF has to be located on a server in Germany. Actually, as long as you store the data in a country subject to the EU Directive 95/46/EC, you will meet the necessary legal requirements. So most ‘old’ EU countries plus a few EEA countries are also possible locations for hosting.

Well the EU Directive primary aims to privacy issues. But in Germany there are some additional regulations regarding finances and accounts - most of them unknown to small and mid sized companies. For myself I did not known them until my accountant told me:

http://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/ao_1977/__146.html

I do know some of my clients who have the written obligation by german Finanzamt not to use Cloud Servers for their SAP/AX Citrix Desktops hosted in Holland and the UK. They are forced to use “german” servers for their german Company.

Well I don’t have an legal reference for this, but in my opinion putting personal data on a cloud service would probably breach the directive itself, regardless of what local law states. While you are entitled to collect and process personal data as needed to transact business, you are required to have control over that data and ensure that it is not transferred into a country where the directive is not enforce. Clearly if you put it on a cloud you have not control over where it goes.

It is also worth noting that personal data is very limited in scope, but as you rightly point out there is a lot of other legislation around relating to business data that must be adhered to as well. Many companies tend to just check if the comply with the directive, check the box and move on.

Kevin did say this was for Learning German but not that the business is located in Germany or the EU

So much of the German regulation may not even apply
