In 1956, IBM released the 305 RAMAC, the first computer with a HDD, or hard drive disk. Long before drives could fit in your pocket, or even on a keychain, this weighed over a ton, but only stored 5MB of data. Thats nothing compared to the storage space offered today.
The 305 RAMAC system was announced in May of 1955, and launched in September of the next year. The IBM 350 Disk Storage Unit leased for about $3,200 per month upon release.
It was 60 inches long, 68 inches high and 29 inches deep. There were over a thousand manufactured before production ended in 1961. The 305 was withdrawn in 1969.
Today you can easily mis-place a 16GIG thumbdrive if you aren’t careful!
Pfft. I have a 128 GB USB stick that is only 1 cm x 1 cm x 0.5 cm and Ive nearly lost the darn thing a dozen times. There is such a thing as too small!
I literally have just lost a 256Gb mini sd card of the kind above. It may be in the vacuum cleaner.
Thats how you find the damn things again.
I have a 256gb one of these. I added two lanyard straps so I can find it in my bag or pocket.
