How to upgrade Xojo under Ubuntu?

Can anyone tell me if the “Install” button works under Ubuntu?

I want to upgrade from Xojo 2024r3 to Xojo 2024r4.2 (the latest) but when I click the “Install” button the progress indicator just goes back and forth seemingly forever. And it doesn’t appear that there is any significant activity on my ethernet port which makes me think that it isn’t actually downloading even though it claims to be.
Is this “Install” button only for other OS’s like Windows or MAC?

Perhaps download it from the Xojo site and then run the installer?

If Xojo is installed to the /opt folder then it is under sudo privileges and cannot be updated this way under regular user credentials. When it tries to it doesn’t ask for raised permissions or at least that was my theory. I’ve since stopped putting things in /opt and started an Applications folder in my home.

Thanks guys. (@Robert_Cortiaus, @Paul_Birkholtz) I always get the feeling that Xojo thinks of Linux like the unwanted child in the family. In the past I’ve always installed Xojo using the .deb file. But my curiosity was getting the better of me and so I tried to use that shiny “Install” button hoping that it would work for me.

Anyway, I fell back to the tried and true .deb file install and all is good. Still, it would be nice if that button was labeled “BACK OFF! NOT FOR YOU LINUX USERS!”

Everyone knows we can handle doing things the hard way is all :+1: Linux isn’t for the weak willed :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

This is a great idea. I am going to start doing this myself.
Thanks @Paul_Birkholtz

Download and use the .deb installer. It works on Ubuntu.
