Got a small question about Xojo pricing

Wow, first edition Nov 2023, looks like it will be the only book with xojo API2

I don’t know that it explicitly states that in the description, but considering its release date I would certainly expect it to be. I’m looking forward to it myself. I know there are video overviews and tutorials, and the Xojo documentation is good for reference material, but I have always preferred books in printed/electronic format for learning. There’s unfortunately just not much of it when it comes to Xojo.

It does

I meant that I don’t know whether it explicitly states that it’s for API2, but that given the release date of Nov. 2023 I assume it is. Sorry, I should have been more clear on that.

Stating or not, not being would make it a DOA book. People buying a November/2023 book should be expecting it updated to at least Xojo 2023R3.1 language and features.

Agreed!

I would like Xojo to offer a Desktop/Web/Console version that does not include Mobile. I’m getting ready to retire in a year and paying for a Pro license that includes Mobile is more than I want to pony up for mobile features I care nothing about and have never ever used. As a current corporate user I have bought a Pro license every year for many years. Moving into the private sector user category a $499 version without mobile would be my sweet spot, (Pro $799 - mobile $399 plus $100 for console = $499. As it stands now I’ll keep whatever the last Pro license I buy when I retire and hope that Xojo comes out with a new value proposition that does not include mobile.

PRO contains console, so the math would be just PRO - Mobile.

By the way, from my POV, console should be free for all. And Rasp PI (Xojo for SBC) should be like $20 instead of free.

It should be included wit a least Desktop (as it used to be) and I think Web makes sense as well since Web IS a console app with web code.

I said this a few years back and I still think the same. If such option existed, I would have purchased it during the las 20% off.

My argument is based on all current languages available I know. All console versions are free. They don’t expect making money out of something that basic. It should be included everywhere. And not need even a license. Everything else should need a license.

C’est simple d’avoir une reduction de 50 ou 70 % !
Souvent entre deux versions annuelles, les modifications ne sont pas importantes ou ne vous concernent pas.
Dans ce cas achetez une nouvelle version tous les deux ou trois ans

It’s simple to have a 50 or 70% discount!
Often between two annual versions, the changes are not important or do not concern you.
In this case, buy a new version every two or three years

Cool. $399 is an even sweeter spot Just replace the current desktop version with the Desktop/Web/Console version and it’s all good.

Logically each part of a bundle has a discounted price to compose the offer, so Xojo won’t do the math using the individual full price, but the discounted price for the bundle.

Desktop does seem to include workers now… but I don’t think console.

As I said. Console is usually given for free, so people can produce their “hello world” as they wish, and publish contents in public repositories. It’s a long term marketing strategy.

PRO has products at a discounted price, you can also see it this way:

  • $399 Desktop
  • $399 Web
  • Console discounted to $1
  • Mobile Free

Total $799

(Sorry, this is my way of saying that they will not offer Desktop/Web/Console for $499, not even $599)

Sure, you can see as a tip of $799 and platforms free on any other nonsense. But the reality is that most people respond to the perceived value, This verty post is proof of that.

For people NOT using mobile, the PRO price tag look like a scam. It will be seen like paying for something they dont use OR paying more than FULL price for the 2 editions they want

  • $199.75 Desktop
  • $199.75 Web
  • Console SCAMED $199.75 for something that should be included
  • Mobile SCAMED $199.75 for something Im not going to use

Or

  • Console percieved value $0 for something that should be included
  • Mobile percieved value $0 for something Im not going to use
  • $399.5 Desktop, more expensive than purchasing it alone
  • $399.5 Web, more expensive than purchasing it alone

Shame on them, loosing potential clients by not looking at the perceived value problem

Their idea is that this way, more clients go for PRO instead of buying just Desktop/Web (or Desktop/Mobile, Web/Mobile) as is just $1 more than buying independent.

I don’t know their numbers and don’t know how to calculate not selling to potential clients. The only thing I know is increased prices in the last 6 years that I have known Xojo.
