I would appreciate some advice/insight into a situation I run into regarding Google. I am ready to publish my website for an Expenses program. I’ve worked on SEO but it appears that Google is either selling spaces or has certain companies preset for searches. In my case Intuit, Quicken, Monarch Money, Ramsey Solutions all appear at the top of each page list, going five to ten pages deep.
With each web page sixty to eighty percent the same my concern is that even with great SEO entries I stand little chance of making it to the top five to ten pages. It seems that Google may not be of much value trying to start. I’m concerned that advertising may not be of value either because this seems random at best. I could be living the dream as a small startup with little chance to make success a reality.
My questions are whether anyone has faced this problem and if so, how did you deal with it if you had a small or no budget. Is there an alternative to Google? I’m uncertain whether Facebook, Linked-In or other such social media is worth advertising in.
If anyone would like to comment, I’d appreciate it. Seems like I looking at a small mountain. Thank you in advance. Jim
Does your app have a specific niche? If yes, target that. If not, then look for a specific niche.
My email archiving app is in a similar position. There are a lot of large companies for the Windows side. So my keywords usually are macOS specific.
SEO is complex, ever-changing, and makes it nearly impossible to compete with massive companies that can afford to have marketing people on staff who can not only constantly tweak things but develop direct contacts with google.
Research modern SEO at length, especially regarding “the algorithm”. That’s about the best advice I can give. If all else fails, take out some search ads and set reasonable spending limits.
Well, you need to make an interesting website with some content people love.
Then people can link to the page , which tells google, that it is popular.
And when google shows your page in the result list for some search result, they count how often people click on it.
It may take years to become relevant for a wider audience. But maybe you can position yourself in a few niches.
Thank you, Beatrix, Anthony and Christian. Working on SEO at the current time. Reading “Get To The Top of Google” by Tim Cameron Kitchen. We’ll see how things turn out.
