I’ve found Finder-reported disk space to be questionable (or at least late to update) since Mojave.
I have found that opening “About this Mac” and clicking on “storage” (and sometimes also the “manage…” button) can force a number of cleanup things to happen and the Finder will report correct space after a few minutes.
I appreciate that doesn’t help you as a dev, but it is helpful…
