Force Sleep

In a client iOS application (scanner) if they put the device on the charger they’d like for the iOS device to sleep as if pressing the sleep/wake button. The problem they’re seeing is that with the screen never sleeping the iPod touches start to swell (I assume heat from the screen and charging). They have the Display->Auto Lock settings set to Never.

Short of having them change the Auto Lock setting (and retraining hundreds of people) is there a way that I can force the iPod to go to sleep when I want it to?

AFAIK its a private API so unless youre side loading and avoiding the app store you cant use it

Well, maybe I can work it from the other direction. How do I keep the device from going to sleep if I meet certain conditions?

And looks like I can do that from this thread:

Yup. That’s the right way to do this.
