I have an exchange mail account with a company I work with, and I’m using macos Mail to receive them.
since a few months, it started to receive the mails many times 2-3 times a day, the mails that have been treated and/or deleted come again. they don’t come the next day.
coworkers using outlook don’t have the problem.
I tried to change the mailboxes comportment (store on the server or locally) with no luck.
the problem is also present at a customer, with a sequoia macos (I have sonoma) the treated emails comes back during the same day 1 2 or 3 more times. this customer has his own exchange account. this customer also uses macos mail, his coworkers use outlook and don’t have the problem.
I searched the web for this and did not get to interesting results. so I’m asking here?
may be @Beatrix_Willius the Guru of email protocols has an answer to this ?
So you move emails to a mailbox and they are back in the Inbox? Sorry, no idea. The only weird thing that newer versions of Mail so is the suggested follow up which is does for random email. But the emails then have a “follow up” in the list of emails.
Just a guess, but could your host be running an old version of Exchange Server? And your newer Mac Mail can’t communicate with it very well?
I’ve seen oddness like this in the past, when my former employer used to self-host their own Exchange Server. That all stopped when my employer moved everything to the Microsoft cloud (where everything was kept up-to-date).
Note: I’m using outlook.com with Mac Mail on Sonoma 14.7.2 with no issues.
Have you tried the rebuild procedure for the mailboxes in the exchange account? It’s under the Mailbox menu at the bottom.
My other thoughts would be if there is a lot of mail in the account that might be causing difficulties. I used to run into that a lot as people would get up towards 20K - 30K emails in an account or folder. I’ve moved all my consulting clients off exchange long ago, so that might not be an issue any more.
Also this could be the result of some kind of network communication issue. If they are using any of the new apple privacy stuff you might try turning that off and seeing if the problem is still there.
