Event Announcement from UK User Group

The Xojo Developers UK User Group is pleased to announce a two-day event on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th November 2014, at a new venue this year - the offices at 77 Paradise Circus, Queensway, Birmingham UK, B1 2DT.

Thursday 13th November - iOS Beta Hands-On Workshop
Join us in a special workshop session from lunchtime to get into using Xojo for developing iOS apps. Paul Lefebvre, the Xojo Evangelist, will give a demo via video chat and we will go over the ins and outs of developing iOS apps using Xojo.

Thursday Evening Social
From 7pm on the Thursday attendees are invited to Jimmy Spices, Regency Wharf, Broad Street, Birmingham B1 2DS (www.jimmyspices.co.uk). This is a great opportunity to meet other Xojo developers, to socialise, pick up tips, and find out what other developers do and how they do it. Don’t miss out!

Friday 14th November – Developer Presentations and Networking
The Friday is packed with developer presentations and networking opportunities. Bring your laptop - Wi-Fi will be available. In the afternoon we will have a video chat with Xojo CEO Geoff Perlman, so we can get all the latest news and ask our questions. At the end of the day there will be an open Q&A session to help you get the answers you are looking for. During the day there will be two Xojo T-shirts to be won in a free raffle, and presentations from guest speakers from the UK and abroad, including:

Custom Control Creation For A Specialist User Interface
Chris Carter, CMAS-Net

Chris is an experienced developer who has developed very impressive software using Xojo to control and provide the user interface for a professional wide format scanner, sold internationally by Xerox. He will show us how to create custom controls in Xojo to make specialist user interfaces.

Security Via Obesity: Being Clever About Storing Your Customers’ Login Details
Hamish Symington, Light Blue Software

Hamish is a Director of Light Blue Software, an independent UK-based company that makes business management software for photographers that’s really easy to use. Hamish presented at last year’s event and at XDev in Las Vegas. This time he will show us cunning techniques to ensure customer login details are kept secure from hacking.

A Radical Approach To Software Licensing
Steve Cholerton, Chol Technology

Steve is an author of several eBooks and many commercial software products, and is a committed and passionate developer of custom and bespoke software for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. His ideas and approach to licensing have caused a great deal of interest in the software-licensing world both in the UK and abroad. He will explain his approach to licensing software, and how to do it.

How build automation makes building and distributing Xojo apps simpler
Tom Catchesides, Light Blue Software

Tom is a Director of Light Blue Software, an independent UK-based company that makes business management software for photographers that’s really easy to use. Formerly one of the UK’s leading wedding photographers, Tom is the technical brains behind Light Blue, the company’s top-class CRM system, built in Xojo. Tom presented at XDev in Las Vegas and this time will show us how to use build automation to make building and distributing Xojo apps easier, including how to automatically code sign your app.

Using JSON and a RESTful API
Stewart Johnson, NetNodes

Stewart is a Director of NetNodes, a Birmingham-based company which develops DoorCloud, Cloud-based Building Access Control software. He uses Xojo to develop a suite of Desktop applications for Mac and PC that interact with DoorCloud to provide supporting Desktop services, including card printing and device discovery. Stewart will show us how to use JSON and a REST-based API to allow communication between Xojo apps and a Cloud service. This is very important, as iOS apps written in Xojo will need to communicate with external and cloud-based databases using such a technique.

Using ChartDirector and DynaPDF
David Cox

David is an experienced Xojo developer and keen user of the Monkeybread Xojo plugins. Using Xojo he has developed applications that are for sale on the Mac App Store and has developed web services that are used internationally. David will show us how to use ChartDirector to make professional charts and DynaPDF to create PDFs using Xojo.

Would YOU Like To Present?
On the Friday we have time available for two 15-minute presentations. If you would like to present, please contact Eric Gibbon and say what you would like to show. In your 15-minute slot, you must be able to show something cool you did using Xojo, explain how it was done, and provide working sample code for the other attendees to freely download at the event.

Refreshments
Refreshments are available throughout both days, but lunches are not provided. However, the venue is in the heart of Birmingham - there are many cash points, cafés, bars, sandwich bars and food shops close by. We encourage you to bring your own lunches to the event room to network with other developers.

How To Book
There is a flat fee of only £42 +VAT (including booking fee) to attend both days, or just on the Thursday or the Friday. Book early! Places are booked on a first-come-first-served basis. To book a place at the event, please visit http://xojo-events-uk.eventbrite.co.uk
