I have been trying to improve App Store Optimisation (ASO) and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) for my Mac Store app. Whilst it is getting hits and downloads, I need more to justify the time and effort.
I have tried testing Google Ad Words - but it seems to make very little difference.
I wondered what companies other’s have used for ASO and SEO for their products?

Adwords is a ripoff IMHO if you are not ready to spend several thousand dollars and if your product does not have enough potential to pay that back. I have dropped it two years ago and never saw a dent in my sales.
It is much better to spend time having a good organic circulation by doing every bit necessary to have the best possible visibility in search engines. Meaning ideally being in the top three results for a given keyword. Having the top three for one keyword only can make all the difference. Being in the first page is an absolute must. Work and work again until you get to that result.
One of the major keys to search engine visibility is how many sites link to your app page. Also, you want to have as many significant keywords in the description as you can. It is a free ad space that all too often developers don’t exploit. Cram that description with useful information and significant keywords in the text. That will improve your google rank. I link systematically all my sites to the MAS, too.I have not had much time, but offering the product with a voucher and a well written press release to major prescriptors such as CNET, Macupdate, bloggers, etc. Can make a lot of difference. And if you can, an evaluation package for free download in those places is a very good idea as well, mentioning availability in the MAS, as well as on your site if you have one.
