Apple presentation
Doubtful.
Samsung releases stuff as soon as humanly possible - not when they have "best of ".
They’re more like “Hey look it compiled. Ship It!” to Apples “Well it compiled now we have to make it work right” :P
Really? Perhaps you’ve forgotten alarmgate, antennagate, mapgate, vertigate,…

Samsung’s Gear S is a standalone device, you can use it to make calls, send and receive emails, turn-by-turn navigation, etc… Apple’s watch is more like the previous generation of Samsung Gear, it’s an accessory to accompany a smartphone. I wonder what Apple’s next iteration will be like.

Larger iPhones:
Well I might run into same trap with screen size of latest iPhone6 I thought I’d be with my iPhone5 when I bought it 2 years ago.
Today the screen size of an iPhone4 looks so small, too small I would say. I need to feel the new iPhone6 in my hands first.

Apple Watch:
Puhhh… I do not know… nothing for me… the biggest weak spot is the mandantory combination with iPhone. The biggest motivation in using an Apple Watch would be in leaving the iPhone at home when on road. I am left quite unsure about this product. And talking about sports and all the fitness features: I do make sports… sometimes… but I am defintily not within target group of this product

Product Range of Apple:
I am starting to make concerns about the increase of products and product range at all. Reminds me to late 90ies before Steve axed 90% of them and startet to concentrate on a few and exclusive things, created pureness and simplicity. I do not have the feeling: I must have this one! No I am starting to think over: Which of these products could match my needs? Oh there is something from Samsung too? Well…

I’ve heard nothing about Yosemite. Did I miss something? Stream was ugly and I could only watch the half of the show and this was absolutly not Apple like quality standard. I guess (and hope) the TV broadcaster is losing his job…

There’s an interesting blog post on why the live stream was so terrible at http://blog.streamingmedia.com/2014/09/why-apples-livestream-failed.html .

There was nothing in the presentation about Yosemite.

If you want to download a PDF of an actual-size wireframe of the iPhone, to see how the iPhones will feel in your hand, you can: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/09/how-big-is-the-iphone-6-plus-find-out-with-our-handy-paper-template/

I got the impression that you need to bring your iPhone for certain things. If you need to use features that utilizes GPS or Cellular (most features). But if you were to go for a run, I think the “Watch” will do good on its own? Track steps, distance and stuff

I don’t know either. I’m really curious about it though. I’ll probably end up with one of em’

Ja I got quite same thoughts on this streaming desaster but wthout this deep knowledge in Akamai Infrastructure stuff. Even on my Apple TV streaming was crippled down or with Mandarin translation voice in the background and this was the clear Indikation to me that JSON Website might not be the only reason.

Less is more and it is better to make simple but robust and useful products than losing into animating, blinking goofy eye candy JSON stuff.

I was a bit disappointed. (I use a Google Nexus 5 as phone).
I had hoped that the following reasoning would apply:
iPod works with Mac. No need for iPhone.
IPad works with Mac. No need for iPhone.
IPhone works with Mac.
All their product seems to work when you have a Mac. No need for an iPhone to use any of them.
Now the Apple Watch. You need an iPhone.
Oh well. Not for me I guess.

Well, fitting all of the iPhone’s kit into a watch would either make it massive or seriously expensive. Plus can you imagine buying a watch with a data plan?! So, as long as it has internet connectivity which isn’t just wifi, it’ll need a phone to do that.

Unrecognized by the mainstream media something really disturbing has happened during the keynote: Millions of Apple users find tiny, useless phones in their pocket (sorry, in German only): http://www.der-postillon.com/2014/09/millionen-apple-nutzer-finden-winzige.html

I don’t quite think the watch needs all the functionality of the iPhone. It would be strange to expect that.

On the other hand, here is a watch/phone out of the Netherland, made for kids, that works with a sim card.

http://www.hallofo.nl/ontdek-hallofo.html
It can be used to call, send sms messages, take picture, listen to music and watchmovies. All this for 117€.

I think something like this, but with the ease of use of Apple’s products would have been nice. Also a bluetooth version (to be combined with a Smartphone) and a 3G version (standalone) would have been possible. What we get instead is a high price accessory to an iPhone.

There is a market for that too, but it’s just not for me.

Both the new phablet and the watch are made for the hands of man and not women. My iPod 4g is nice in my hands. But the new phablet? No thanks. Same for the watch.

My iPad works nicely with my Mac. No need for an iPhone. It makes sense, however, for the watch to be paired with an iPhone because it’s an accessory to the iPhone.

I seem to remember they said there were watches in two sizes?

Why would I buy just another private-data-grabber? That’s what all those gadgets, watches, wristbands are all about: shuffle anything they can get from us to the cloud and then let some other people make money from it.

For instance: what the heck do insurances have to know about my fitness program? If my insurance fee depends on health data, then we do not need insurances any more. Those who are at high risk will have to pay insanely high fees and so they could just as well pay directly, in case of need.

Some clever marketing people lay the bait out, making us believe all that knick-knack would make our lives better. Not really. Just another backdoor to destroy privacy and values like solidarity in a society.

I just hoped it wouldn’t be.
Notifications on the watch is one thing. Certain apps on the watch is another thing.
Phoning with the watch on the other hand?
I don’t want to talk to my watch and I don’t want my watch to be a speaker so that everyone can hear my phonecall.
I’m not ■■■■ Tracy you know

I’m not some detective with a name that gets blocked over here that is… LOL

Dick Tracy ? Go here and watch today’s strip.
You can enlarge the strip to watch a larger one.
Black and white exists elsewhere in the internet.

Just to pour oil over the flames : will Xojo iOS be able to create programs for the iWatch ?

You mean you do not want to do like David Hasselhoff Knight Rider K2000 ? It would be possible with Siri, though :

  • Siri call my wife
    -> Calling your wife’s mother …

I’ve been looking forward to a larger iPhone so that it is easier to see what’s on the screen. These eyes aren’t what they used to be! But I’m not sure the iPhone 6 will be any easier to read than my iPhone 5. And the iPhone 6 Plus (a strange name, they don’t use Plus anywhere else, do they? I think iPhone 6 Pro would fit better) seems less portable than I would like. I’m going to have to try them in person.

I wonder if these two sizes will lower the pre-order numbers as people perhaps want to try out the different sizes for themselves?

I haven’t worn a watch in over 15 years. I don’t see the Apple Watch making me want to start again. My wife, who does wear a watch, really liked the Apple Watch concept and found it more interesting than the new phones. But the watch thing is just a fancy demo at this point; we really don’t know all that much about it.

I’d like Apple Pay to become commonplace. I’ve been known to forget my wallet at home, but I never forget my iPhone!

The Android Wear Samsung watch looks very much like cheap plastic, and I doubt it will seduce watch amateurs who appreciate them as jewels. The Apple watch in that respect is more attuned with what people like to wear. Now they will probably need the same in Gold, since mixing precious metals would be a faux pas for masters of elegance. No rapper will wear anything that is not 24 carats

That is probably the killer feature of the 21st century

I think the watch is a bit gimmicky, a little like what I thought about the iPhone 5c (the brightly coloured attempt). To me this is moving away from Apple’s ethos. To me apple is (was) all about brushed aluminium, smoked glass, machined steel and manufacturing quality that other manufacturers just don’t compete with. This is reflected in the price which makes them a little special, you own one and you like owning that slim box of aluminium awesomeness and you like people knowing and seeing you own it.

When the iPhone 5c came out I thought, oh no, modding, surely not for Apple. Thats it now, the chavs (excuse the colloquialism) are going to want a bite of the Apple. Now they are doing watches, with interchangeable straps. Oh, and you can get a gold one to match your gold teeth and tattoos. Or how about one with a plastic pink strap and a mickey mouse face…

Well, personally I think they are drifting, commercially it is probably great as they are appealing to a bigger market but drifting non the less into a plastic market which in my view is diluting their exclusivity.
