The problem with that is there is no support for it in Android itself, Google removed what tablet supporting API’s there were years ago.

Do you mean when Android 1.x and 2.x did’t support tablets but Android 3.0 did? 
That was more than a decade ago. Since the 4.0 Android has support for BOTH.
